Our clients are always telling us how beautiful the Made for Life treatments and products are at Simplicité. The Made for Life brand is special; it was special from the moment I heard about it from Liz McKeon; Author, Coach & Beauty Consultant. And even more so when I experienced all the wonderful wellbeing treatments. Made for Life is an award winning 100% certified organic product that is hand made in Cornwall. I saw it being made in their health and wellbeing hub in Truro, Cornwall. I remember meeting Amanda Winwood, Made for Life’s CEO, back in September 2017 in Rosslare. Amanda was taking a much-needed break in Kerry with her husband and her dogs and we agreed to meet before I travelled to Cornwall. From the moment I met her and listened to the Made for Life story, I was in. I was all in because of the inclusivity it brings for those undergoing treatment or recovering from cancer. Before setting up Simplicité, I didn’t know how difficult it was for cancer patients to find somewhere to have spa treatments. Quite often they are turned away. Amanda and I met in my brother in laws pub, Coopers of Killinick, just outside Rosslare. It is hard to know what brands and products to choose when you do not come from this industry. I decided to follow my gut, like I usually do. Amanda was so passionate about Made for Life and the sense of enhanced wellbeing the treatments bring to clients. But she was most passionate about the Made for Life Foundation (registered charity 1138846); the foundation she established to provide support for people diagnosed with and recovering from cancer. The Made for Life Foundation organises days filled with holistic complementary treatments, organic makeovers, nutritional advice, art therapy, meditation and relaxation techniques along with time for sharing and hugs across the UK. I am incredibly lucky that none of my immediate family have been affected by cancer. I have seen close friends lose loved ones and friends and it has been extremely painful for them. Unfortunately, one of my dear friends has been impacted and it has opened my eyes to the reality of cancer in many ways. Lucy is doing well considering she has been through chemo, radiation and a mastectomy; she is simply amazing.
I knew when I met Amanda that we would bring the brand to Simplicité. I booked a trip with my good friend Jude and headed to Cornwall to see it all in person. We visited Truro where we received a warm welcome and saw the beautiful Made for Life products being hand made so skilfully. We experienced our first Made for Life treatment at Crantock Bay Spa and we were both speechless. I never experienced the level of relaxation I felt following a treatment previously; I could not put my shoes on and I certainly was not ready to drive for some time.
Made for life’s treatments are incredibly unique and we are thrilled that our fantastic therapists will shortly undergo Cancer Touch Therapy training provided by the Made for Life Foundation. The Cancer Touch Therapy training course is a fully accredited 3-day programme and enables qualified beauty and massage therapists to gain a deeper understanding of what cancer is, the staging and grading of cancer and how the treatments for cancer can affect the need to adapt spa treatments. Full protocols are offered for both face and body along with supervised practice. The course is accredited by the Complementary Medical Association which means insurance can be gained and we can offer these holistic therapies confidently to those who have been diagnosed with the condition. The course was developed taking advice from trained oncology massage teachers, advisors within the oncology team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and Macmillan. Marc Innes, MISRM, MCMA and Founder of the School of Natural Therapies is the course lead trainer and gained accreditation for this course from the Complementary Medical Association (CMA). My team feel very privileged to be doing this training and even more privileged to be able to help people going through and recovering from cancer. The four treatments available will help cancer patients to disconnect from daily stress and re-connect with nature and stillness. The treatments are akin to a period of meditation, allowing the body to access the parasympathetic state. This is where the heart rate slows down and the brain is encouraged into Alpha-Theta waves. This prompts the mind and body into a ‘state of allowing’ so that body and mind re-connect. This time allows rejuvenation on all levels – mind, body and spirit – including a natural boost to immunity.
Our training costs will go directly into the Made for Life foundation and more people this year will receive complimentary treatments in the United Kingdom. To date, the Made for Life Foundation has worked with people for over 8 years to provide Made for Life days across the UK, supporting over 10,000 people. We are currently putting plans in place for paying it forward at Simplicité.
